Video Editor, Videographer, Photographer & Gen AI Artist
About Me
I’m Rinkan Gupta—a Toronto-based Video Editor, Videographer, Photographer, and Generative AI Artist whose career has been shaped by more than two decades of professional experience. During this journey, I have collaborated with over 100 clients across Canada and international markets, producing corporate films, documentaries, promotional campaigns, event content, photography, and social-first visual stories.
My academic background brings together scientific discipline and formal creative training. I am a science graduate from a university in India and studied Digital Filmmaking at SAE (School of Audio Engineering), India. While my science education strengthened my analytical thinking, curiosity, and problem-solving abilities, my filmmaking studies provided the technical and creative foundation through which I learned to translate ideas into structured visual narratives.
My Creative Journey
I began my professional journey in 2005 as an event video editor, working in an environment where important moments had to be recognized quickly and transformed into emotionally engaging stories under demanding deadlines. Those early experiences taught me how rhythm, imagery, music, and timing can work together to give meaning and structure to hours of unedited footage.
As my career developed, I progressed from Video Editor to Post-Production Head, Senior Video Editor, Production Coordinator, and Post-Production Consultant. With each role, my responsibilities expanded beyond the editing timeline to include production planning, client communication, shoot coordination, workflow development, and creative leadership. I have also supervised teams of up to 12 editors, compositors, and VFX artists, ensuring that creative quality was maintained while schedules, revisions, and final-delivery requirements were managed efficiently.
International Experience
My professional journey includes projects and creative collaborations across India, the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates, and Canada. Working across different countries, cultures, industries, and production environments has broadened my understanding of visual communication, enabling me to adapt my creative approach to audiences with different expectations, perspectives, and communication needs.
Throughout this international career, I have contributed to projects for respected organizations including the President of India, the Reserve Bank of India, Indian Railways, UNICEF, HCL Technologies, and Serco Group. My work has encompassed government communication, corporate films, documentary and NGO productions, promotional campaigns, branded content, interviews, event films, and social-impact stories.
From Camera to Final Delivery
Having worked extensively across both production and post-production, I understand how decisions made during planning and filming ultimately influence the quality of the finished story. I can take a project from its initial brief and visual concept through shot planning, filming, interviews, B-roll, photography, editing, colour grading, sound design, motion graphics, client revisions, and final delivery.
As a videographer, I work with Canon and Sony camera systems, producing landscape and vertical content for corporate, documentary, promotional, event, website, and social media applications. I own a Canon EOS R8, multiple lenses, and a portable lighting kit, which allows me to manage independent assignments while also collaborating effectively with small production teams. I am also a Blackmagic Design Certified DaVinci Resolve Editor and Colorist.
Photography
Rather than functioning as a secondary service, photography has remained an essential part of my professional identity throughout my filmmaking career. My photographic work includes sports and fast action, corporate and private events, products, food and hospitality, professional portraits, lifestyle imagery, social media content, and documentary-style photography.
I manage the complete photographic process—from composition, manual exposure, subject direction, and lighting to image selection, colour correction, retouching, batch processing, and final delivery. My recent assignments include delivering more than 250 edited sports photographs for Gideon Boxing Academy, creating product and lifestyle imagery, producing professional real-estate portraits, and completing commercial food photography.
My Canadian Chapter
I moved to Canada in 2022 and am now based in Toronto, where I continue to build upon the international experience developed throughout my career. Establishing myself in a new country has allowed me to understand Canadian audiences, businesses, and production expectations while bringing a broader international perspective to every assignment.
My recent Canadian work includes editing multiple trailer versions for the documentary McCluskieganj: The Promised Land, producing video and photography content for local businesses, creating professional portraits, and covering sports and community events. These projects have enabled me to combine established production discipline with the flexibility required by contemporary digital and social-media platforms.
Generative AI & New Creative Possibilities
As visual production continues to evolve, I am expanding my creative practice through generative AI, using it to support research, concept development, script development, storyboarding, pre-visualization, image and video creation, voice, music, and post-production workflows. I regard AI as a means of extending creative possibilities rather than replacing professional experience, originality, storytelling, or human judgment.
Beyond the Camera
Outside filmmaking and photography, I have a strong personal interest in fragrance. I enjoy collecting perfumes while learning about perfume composition, perfume making, fragrance oils, and blending—a creative pursuit that, much like visual storytelling, depends upon curiosity, experimentation, balance, and the thoughtful combination of individual elements to produce a memorable emotional experience.
Based in Toronto and authorized to work in Canada, I am open to full-time, contract, and freelance opportunities in video editing, videography, photography, post-production, generative AI, and visual content creation.
